Stephanie Knauss, Camp Susque’s newest School of Discovery Coordinator, started as Year Round Staff in 2023. Having taught Social Studies at Milton Middle School for 7 years, Stephanie is a great fit to the team. Add to that her camp counseling experience in outdoor education, horseback riding, rock climbing, caving, Vacation Bible School, and dance, Stephanie is perfectly suited to serve as Susque’s School of Discovery Coordinator. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Bucknell University and a Masters in Education from Wilkes University.

Her joy for glorifying Christ, teaching about Creation, and creating community makes her the perfect person to head up this Educational Programs coordinator role.
When she’s not coordinating SOD classes, you can find her homeschooling her children and spending time with family. You may even find her creating music as a little known fact about her is that she plays the cello!

Stephanie and her husband, Josh, have two young-adult sons, Aaron and Cole, and two little ones, Tessa and Joseph.

Describe your perfect day off?

All my favorite people meet me for a hike to a waterfall and swimming hole, where everyone gets free gelato and homemade cheesecake. We hop on horses and ride back down the trailhead, laughing and singing songs as we go. Upon returning home, I get a long, hot shower while listening to Yo-Yo-Ma. Someone does all the evening chores while I cozy into bed with whatever Bible study or book I’m currently reading. Either that, or my husband and I go back in time and re-do any family vacation we’ve ever had except we do it without kids.

Where’s the coolest place you’ve ever been?

The Alps in Switzerland and Austria. I don’t think anyone has ever needed to photo-shop a single photo from those locations!

What’s one thing on your bucket list that you’d love to do?

Eat at a Michelin-star restaurant

What is your favorite Scripture?

Psalm 139

What is your favorite area at Camp Susque?

I coordinate classes that glorify Christ, teach about Creation, and create community.

What are you good at?

According to my son, I’m good at teaching, volleyball, horse-back riding, giving the stink eye, & planning and organizing.

What challenges you?

When people are unreliable, CrossFit workouts, reading the book of Numbers, lack of sleep, to name a few

What is your favorite camp memory as a child?

Soaping up horses in the creek and sliding off their haunches like we were in a waterpark (Not at Camp Susque, but feel free to petition for horses at camp!)

When did you become a Christian?

In 2011, after reading “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis
