Wilderness First Aid is a course for wilderness group guides, camp counselors, long trail backpackers, weekend trippers, or someone excited to start their first outdoor adventure. The “WFA” course will equip students with basic first aid skills intended for places and situations where definitive medical care is more than an hour away. Students can expect to spend a minimal time in the classroom and an emphasis on hands on practice outdoors and practical scenarios.
The Wilderness First Aid course is provided through SOLO Wilderness Medicine schools (SOLO) and is a nationally recognized certification that meets American Camping Association standards for trip leaders and can be counted towards continuing education hours for EMTs. The course can also be used to re-certify a current Wilderness First Responder certification. The WFA certification is valid for two (2) years from the class date. It is recommended that the holder of the WFA certification also obtain a nationally recognized CPR certification (SOLO CPR, Red Cross, American Heart Assoc., etc) Please note: CPR will not be offered with this course.
Students should come prepared to spend time outside (rain or shine) participating in hands on activities that may be physically challenging.
